Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Red food coloring
  • 1/2 teaspoon corn syrup
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions
 

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly dust with powdered sugar.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, water, and corn syrup. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.
  • Remove from heat and stir in peppermint extract and a few drops of red food coloring.
  • Pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and let it cool slightly until it’s pliable.
  • Using lightly oiled hands, pull and twist the candy into heart shapes or create a long rope and bend into hearts.
  • Allow candies to harden completely at room temperature, about 15–20 minutes.
  • Dust with powdered sugar if desired and store in an airtight container.
