Ingredients

  • 1 kg plums ripe (halved and stones removed)
  • 1 kg granulated sugar
  • 150 ml water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice optional, helps with setting

Instructions

Prepare the Plums

  • Wash the plums, cut them in half, and remove the stones.
  • If some stones are difficult to remove, cook the plums first and take them out later.

Start Cooking

  • Place the plum halves and water in a large heavy-bottomed pan.
  • Simmer over medium heat for 15 minutes until the plums soften.

Add Sugar

  • Add the sugar to the softened plums.
  • Stir continuously over low heat until the sugar completely dissolves—avoid boiling at this stage.

Bring to a Boil

  • Increase the heat and bring the mixture to a rapid boil.
  • Let it boil vigorously for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Check the Set

  • Test the jam by placing a small spoonful on a chilled plate.
  • If it wrinkles when pushed with a finger, it’s ready.
  • If not, boil for another 5 minutes and test again.

Jar the Jam

  • Turn off the heat and let the jam stand for 5 minutes to settle the fruit.
  • Carefully ladle into warm, sterilized jars.
  • Seal immediately and let cool completely.
