  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Optional: pink or red food coloring
  • Optional: icing sprinkles, or sugar crystals for decorating

Instructions
 

  • First, preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Next, whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Set aside.
  • In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract. Mix until fully combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  • Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface. Cut into desired shapes.
  • Place cookies on prepared baking sheets, leaving space between them.
  • Bake for 8–10 minutes, until edges are just set. Cool completely before decorating.
